Wander Through the Wonders: My Journey to Munnar, Kerala
A Breathtaking Escape into the Heart of Nature
Tucked away in the Western Ghats of Kerala lies a dreamy hill station called Munnar — a place where mist kisses the hills, tea plantations stretch beyond the horizon, and peace whispers through the breeze. My trip to Munnar was more than just a vacation; it was a soul-refreshing escape into the lap of nature.
Day 1: Arrival & First Impressions
The journey to Munnar from Kochi was a scenic one — winding roads flanked by waterfalls, lush greenery, and cool mountain air. As we ascended into the hills, the temperature dropped, and the landscape transformed into a canvas of green serenity.
By afternoon, I reached a charming homestay nestled amidst the tea gardens. The aroma of fresh cardamom and eucalyptus trees welcomed me, instantly washing away the fatigue of travel.
Day 2: Exploring the Green Paradise
I started the day with a trek through the Kolukkumalai Tea Estate, one of the highest tea plantations in the world. Watching the sunrise from this spot was surreal — golden rays cutting through the clouds over emerald hills. A quick tour of the tea factory gave me a taste (literally!) of the region’s rich tea heritage.
Next up was the Eravikulam National Park, home to the endangered Nilgiri Tahr. Walking amidst the rolling grasslands and spotting wildlife in their natural habitat was exhilarating.
Day 3: Chasing Waterfalls & Local Flavors
Munnar is dotted with waterfalls, and I made it a mission to visit a few. Lakkam Waterfalls was a favorite — perfect for a refreshing dip and some stunning photos. On the way back, I stopped by a spice garden and learned about Kerala’s magical mix of pepper, cloves, and nutmeg.
Lunch was a traditional Kerala meal served on a banana leaf — rice, sambar, avial, papadam, and a mouth-watering mango pickle that I still dream about.
Day 4: Souvenirs & Sunset Goodbyes
Before heading home, I spent the morning browsing through local markets. I picked up handmade soaps, tea packets, and some gorgeous handwoven shawls.
As the sun set behind the mountains on my last evening, I sat with a cup of hot cardamom tea, reflecting on my journey. Munnar had offered not just a break from routine, but a deeper connection with nature and myself.
